This Learning Lab was created by Inspire East, the Regional Centre of Excellence for the East of England, and is focused on the area of the Thames Gateway in South Essex.
Inspire East’s Learning Laboratory project was founded on work that had been undertaken by Essex County Council and the Urban Renaissance Institute (URI).

This prior research identified opportunities to develop and enhance
the key public sector skills identified in the Egan Review, which would
be necessary to meet growth and regeneration priorities for the Thames
Gateway/South Essex area (TGSE).
The specific development identified for the focus of the Leaning Lab was the Fryerns/Craylands Regeneration Project, in Basildon, Essex. Basildon District Council is the lead organisation working in partnership with English Partnerships and Essex County Council.
