This Learning Lab was created by Integreat, the Regional Centre of Excellence for Yorkshire & Humberside, and is focused on the areas of Colne Valley, Howden, Skipton and Bridlington.
The Cre8 project is sponsored by Integreat Yorkshire and managed by the Creative Industries Development Agency (CIDA). It aims to provide opportunities for young people in the Yorkshire & Humber region (predominantly aged 14 – 16) with the opportunity and skills to participate in the decision-making processes of their communities, and to develop the skills necessary to do this.
This Learning Lab develops and expands an earlier initiative, founded by the Regional Development Agency, called the Renaissance programme. This programme had seen the creation of ‘Town Teams’, consisting of groups of local residents and professionals working together to generate plans for their communities.
The Town Teams are supported in drawing up a 25 year vision for their communities. In order for these ambitions to be transformed into reality, it is acknowledged that young people need to be engaged early. In this way it is hoped that they will become ‘passionate about the town they live in and will inherit’ and will want to take an active part in safeguarding the long-term vision.
